This course is intended to guide students of language majors to develop a comprehensive and scientific view of language. With a bit focus on English language and a cross-linguistic point of view, the lectures not only cover a wide range of theoretical fields of lingusistics such as phonology, morphorlogy, syntax, semantics , pragmatics , but also introduce some major interdisciplinary areas like language and culture, language and society, language and brian, first and second language acquisition. Students will be taken on a tour of ‘the world of language(s) and shown what linguists, sociologists, psychologists, and even biologists have found out about the many fascinating aspects of language, and how they have attempted to unveil the mystery of human language.
