In this course-- The Academic Encounters: Human Behavior , students will improve their English proficiency and develop the skills that they will need to be successful when they come to study in their own future academic subject area in English.
This course mainly consists of two parts: A) Reading and Writing B) Watching, Listening and Speaking. Both are designed to help students to enhance their academic capability by learning:
what to listen for and read in academic texts
How to think critically about what they have listened and read
How to participate in conversations and more formal discussions, give presentations in academic style
How to write in academic style
strategies for dealing with academic vocabulary and
note-taking skills and study techniques
At the end of this semester, students will be better prepared for their future academic subject and more confident in their English communication skills as in this course they will not only be exposed to abundant new information about research findings and theories related to human behavior but also be trained to think critically and apply English in an academic style.
